What aid exists for single mothers?

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE) , in USA there are almost two million single-parent households, of which 81.1% are headed by women. If this is also your case, you can request social assistance for single mothers of an economic nature or through bonuses that allow you to reconcile family and work life. Next, we will see the different aids to mothers with children that currently exist at the state level. In this way, you will know which grant for single mothers best suits your situation.

Types of aid for single mothers

These grants can be requested at the National Social Security Institute (INSS), online or in person by appointment. You just have to download the application and fill it out properly.

Currently, there are the following aids for single mothers :

  • Benefit for birth and care of the minor.
  • Childbirth benefit or multiple adoption.
  • Benefit for birth or adoption for large families, single parents and mothers with disabilities.
  • Minimum Vital Income (IMV).
  • Deduction for large family.
  • Maternity deduction.
  • Aid for working mothers for a child under three years of age in nursery.

  1. Benefit for birth and care of the child

It is one of the main aids for single mothers in Spain. This economic benefit is granted to working women, both employed and self-employed, in cases of maternity, adoption, foster care and guardianship. It is equivalent to 100% of the regulatory base and is obtained during the 16 weeks of maternity leave in Spain. In addition, it can be extended up to two more weeks for each child, starting with the second, if it is a multiple pregnancy or a child with a disability.

  1. Childbirth benefit or multiple adoption

It consists of a single payment social aid for single mothers , the amount of which depends on the number of children born or adopted. To calculate the corresponding amount, if you have two children, the minimum wage (SMI) is multiplied by 4. If you have three children, it is multiplied by 8, and if you have four or more, by 12. Only if one of the children has a disability equal to or greater than 33%, it will compute double.

  1. Benefit for birth or adoption for large families, single parents and mothers with disabilities

This subsidy for single mothers consists of a single payment of 1,000 euros in cases of birth or adoption in large families, single parents and mothers with a disability equal to or greater than 65%. It should be borne in mind that in order to receive this aid, the stipulated income level cannot be exceeded.

  1. Minimum Vital Income (IMV)

The minimum vital income is a benefit that is received on a monthly basis. All those women over 18 years of age with children or minors in their care can request it. The total will depend on the difference between the amount of the guaranteed income and the combined income and income of the woman who requests it.

  1. Deduction for large family

To apply for this aid, it is necessary to have a large family title and be active in Social Security or be unemployed and be receiving a subsidy or be a pensioner. It will be applied in the income statement or will be received monthly through a payment. In the income statement, 1,200 euros per year (or a payment of 100 euros per month) will correspond to large families in the general category (three or four children), single-parent families with two children or with a disabled child. If it is a large family of a special category (five or more children), they will be awarded 2,400 euros per year (or a subscription of 200 euros per month).

  1. maternity deduction

This aid to mothers with children can be requested by all women who work for others or are self-employed. Up to 1,200 euros are received as an annual deduction in personal income tax or through an advance payment of 100 euros per month until the child turns three years old. In case of adoption or foster care, regardless of the minor's age, it will be granted during the three years following registration in the Civil Registry.

  1. Aid for working mothers for a child under three years of age in nursery

Working women can benefit from this bonus for each child under three years of age who attends an authorized nursery or child education center. The maximum deduction is 1,000 euros based on registration and enrollment, attendance and food for full months. Nurseries must present the total expenses of the minors.
